The Pink Jersey commercial for Jared jewelry gives bad advice

Have you seen this commercial for Jared jewelers (as in “He went to Jared”)? A guy proudly shows his friends a present, meant for his girlfriend, that he apparently put a lot of thought into. It’s a jersey-style shirt with the girl’s name and the number 1 written out in Bedazzler-style sequins or rhinestones. The guys feign horror and tell him that, obviously, he should buy the woman expensive diamonds instead.

As a woman, I have to disagree with this advice. I’d be like, give me the spangled shirt with my name on it! Even if it’s a little bit tacky, at least that gift is unique and shows thoughtfulness. But no, instead she’ll receive a generic diamond while their romance dies a little bit.

Jaguar USA’s Backseat Stories

It’s hard to think of British automaker Jaguar as anything but the company that confounded the offices of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce (sniff sniff, Lane!) for the past season of Mad Men, but I have to admit that those are some sweet rides. And now the company’s outlet across the pond, Jaguar USA, has come up with some cute and funny video shorts for its “Backseat Stories” campaign. Stars like Tracy Morgan, hot dog eater extraordinaire Kobayashi, musicians like DrummaBoy, and tons of others join with others for intimate backseat conversations, all in the back of a Jaguar of course. You can see all of them on Jaguar USA’s YouTube page. Here’s a funny one of 30 Rock’s Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski!

Is Daphne Rubin-Vega the narrator for Nice ‘N Easy?

The new Nice ‘N Easy ads are narrated by a voice-over actress who sounds awfully familiar. At first I thought it might be Jennifer Tilly (or her sister Meg Tilly), but now I’m thinking it sounds more like Daphne Rubin-Vega, the musical theater star best known as Mimi from Rent (the original Broadway cast). I’m awaiting a response from Clairol on Twitter, but what do you think?

The funny John Oliver ad for BBC America

If you’re an American who’s rented a DVD of a BBC program like Doctor Who lately, chances are you’ve seen this hilarious ad for BBC America. It took me a minute to identify The Daily Show‘s John Oliver as the narrator. It pokes fun at the Brits’ reputation for repression, which you have to admit is funny because it’s true.

The Jarritos Urban Luchador

I like the vintage filmstock look and simple, silent film style of this new commercial from Jarritos (the delicious Mexican soda you drink at taquerias and while nursing hangovers in Mexico). In this clip, a mom in awesome mom jeans is locked out of her car, and only The Urban Luchador can save the day!

They have another funny ad, about how to stay hydrated while jogging:

Funny commercial

I was paranoid about putting the name of the company in the title of this blog entry, for fear of being spammed like crazy, but if you’ve watched cable you’ve probably seen it. It’s one of a series of ads for The Erotic Network, and while being slightly NSFW, it’s possibly the sweetest take on this type of entertainment I’ve seen yet. How refreshing! It even promises to “fill your home with love.” Awww.
